Pellucidar Tropics is an environment inspired by Turok as well as the fictional Hollow Earth milieu invented by Tarzan creator, Edgar Rice Burroughs for a series of adventure stories. It is a land filled with the relics of ancient Dinosaurs and the lush environment of a tropical valley. Most of the hard surface organics such as the tree's and rocks were created in Zbrush and Mudbox.
Looks neat, and anything Burroughs inspired will always get a positive nod from me, but there's something you're not taking into account. Pellucidar is a world that exhists within a world, a theoretical hollow earth. You wouldn't see a normal sky, you would instead see land that is way off in the distance. Create a shere and go inside, and map the inside of the sphere with the created landscape, so that instead of a normal sky you would see the land.
Don't get me wrong, I applaud your efforts, but it doesn't reflect what pellucidar might actually look like. It does work for Turok.
Just to say this before I start asking question. I think that your environment is really quality work. I think that the textures and lighting is really nice, very soft, and I like the dynamic light on the right there. The water is also very well done. The trees, grass, and plants look very realistic. I like the dino bones on the right there. Really nice touch. Your environment looks very alive.
One thing that stands out to me, that I have been working on myself right now, is the larger stones and rock either in the water or next to the trees. What is the best way to go about making them in 3D and or do you have any good places for tutorials on making them or game environments in general?
Textures, I am finding are very much are of key importance to making an environment look realistic. Do you find that your are making or finding many of your textures?
Even with more simple plants, your are making them with plane and using a texture to make nice little vines or grass which add alot of detail to the whole. This also cuts done on render times, I am sure.
What kind of work do you use Zbrush with in an environment like this?
Thanks a bunch. I am going to watch you. btw You have alot of other cool environments as well. (checking out gallery) XD
